Bringing Tropical Wellness to South Florida Farmers Markets

Bringing Tropical Wellness to South Florida Farmers Markets

Maria Mayorga

This past Saturday marked Alma Market’s very first farmers market experience at Miami Lakes  and honestly, it was a day full of learning, tropical flavors, and meaningful connections.

The morning definitely started a little chaotic. Between running late, setting up quickly, and first day nerves, we were honestly trying to catch our breath during the first hours. On top of that, the booth location we received probably wasn’t the most favorable for foot traffic. But despite all of that, once the day started flowing, everything slowly came together.

One of the best parts of the experience was interacting with so many people who stopped by curious about our exotic fruits and tropical smoothies. We loved sharing the story and benefits behind fruits that many people had never tried before.

Among all the tropical fruits we brought, some of the most talked-about were:
• Tree Tomato
• Longan
• Guanábana
• Papaya
• Pitaya
• Mamey

But the biggest surprise of the day? Definitely the JACKFRUIT. We honestly thought it might feel “too exotic” for many people at the market, especially for a mostly Latin crowd,  but it completely surprised us and quickly became the first fruit to sell out.

As for our smoothie menu, the crowd favorites ended up being:
✨ Pink Vida
✨ Tree Vital
✨ Caribe Energy

Seeing people refresh themselves with tropical flavors we carefully created made the entire experience feel incredibly rewarding.

Even though the day ended up being physically exhausting (especially for my knee 😅), we left feeling grateful, motivated, and even more excited about what Alma Market can become with time, experience, and the right adjustments.

This first event also helped us better understand the Miami Lakes market specifically, because one thing we’re quickly learning is that every market has its own vibe, preferences, and community.

Part of what makes Alma Market special to us is being able to thoughtfully adapt our fruit selection and tropical smoothie menu depending on the people and atmosphere of each location. We want every pop-up experience to feel curated, exciting, and connected to what customers genuinely enjoy discovering.

And honestly… seeing the reaction to fruits like Jackfruit, Mamey, Tree Tomato and Longan made the entire experience even more exciting for us 🌴✨

Now the question is…

Should Alma Market return to Miami Lakes? 👀

Or… where should we pop up next? 🌞

These lovely Colombian girls, now longtime South Florida residents, were so excited to find tree tomatoes again after many years. They shared how difficult it has become to find them in regular grocery stores, and it truly made us happy to reconnect them with a flavor that reminds them of home. 🌴

To cool off from the Florida heat, one of them refreshed herself with our Caribe Energy smoothie , made with tropical passion fruit flavors that brought back even more familiar memories.

Fresh Coconut Water Moment

Nothing says tropical refreshment quite like fresh coconut water on a warm South Florida day 🥥✨

We loved seeing so many people stop by looking for something natural, fresh, and hydrating while exploring the market.

Longan Lovers

One of our favorite moments from the market ✨

These beautiful Cuban ladies instantly lit up when they saw fresh longan at our stand. After more than 30 years living in the U.S., they were so happy to reconnect with fruits they grew up eating.

But they didn’t stop there… they also took home jackfruit, tree tomato, and soursop after learning more about their flavors and wellness benefits.

Moments like these are exactly why Alma Market exists.

The Adventurous Smoothie Choice

We absolutely loved this adventurous customer ✨

Instead of playing it safe, he decided to try one of our boldest smoothie combinations: soursop blended with Greek yogurt.

Although we also offered the classic soursop version, he chose to step outside the box and ended up loving every sip.

One of our favorite things is seeing people discover new tropical flavors and genuinely enjoy the experience. 🌴

Tropical Cravings & Smoothies

One of our sweetest moments from the day was getting to spoil some future moms with tropical cravings 🌴🥥

One guest stopped by craving an ice-cold fresh coconut water to refresh herself from the Florida heat, while another completely fell in love with our Tree Vital smoothie.

She was especially excited to discover tree tomato again and enjoyed her smoothie so much it was almost gone in a few sips ✨

Pink Vida Favorite

Our Pink Vida smoothie quickly became one of the crowd favorites 🌸✨

Refreshing, tropical, vibrant, and full of flavor, it was amazing seeing so many people curious to try something different and instantly fall in love with it.
